SWDA's
2009 Trial
Update
September 2009!
~ SWDA's 2009 Trial
I
promised myself this year would be different! I would get the
results up promptly, I would get the photos online promptly! :)
Well here it is, only one day post trial weekend and I have 5
1/2 hours to kill between classes! So with my house still needing
much attention but not home to do it, I'm committed to getting
this page updated!
This
year we had the pleasure of hosting a judge's wife at our trial
too! Janice Reid is a lovely woman with a great deal of experience
in the sport. She was a great help to us with the paperwork, graciously
completed competitor certificates for us and shared many great
stories about their experiences in the sport.
Saturday's
events included two BH's, a VPG A, a VPG 2 and two IPO 3's. Also
for the first time at our club, we had an entry for a Random Article
Search (Stp 1). The morning's tracking was successful for all
in spite of the fairly gusty winds. We stopped for coffee and
muffins while we reviewed all the paperwork then went on to Obedience.
First
up were Chris and Bender (dobe/dane/boxer mix??) lol. Bender is
a young male with a playful attitude but with a bit of uncertainty
on the trial field. After leaving the field several times at the
off leash portion of the group, Ray reluctantly terminated this
first attempt. Chris and Bender waited at the long down position
while Ryan and 5 y/o Dobermann Conan completed their obedience.
Considering Ryan has only been Conan's owner for 9 months this
pair worked very well together and Conan had enough points to
go onto the traffic portion and easily passed his BH. :) Chris
and Bender will try again soon!
Obedience
and Protection events were successful for the remaining competitors
with a lunch break in between for BBQ burgers.
The
last event of the day was the Stp 1, or in English, the Random
Article Search. We had convinced Alain with Rueben that he should
try this new title. None of us had seen it done or ever done it
before. Alain was up for the challenge, even though there were
just a few weeks until trial. Unfortunately Rueben was not successful
in finding the second article but Ray gave us a lot of valuable
training advice on how to approach this test. Thanks Alain for
being our guinea pig! :P
All
events were done by mid afternoon allowing time for everyone to
rest and freshen up before the Judge's banquet. BBQ steak, chicken,
baked potatoes, sautéed vegetables and plenty of wine filled
the bellies of hungry dog people! And of course the now traditional
cheese cakes. :) Not too late of a night since track layers would
be on the fields by 7AM!
Sunday
morning's tracking was mostly successful. Unfortunately a wandering
dog and his owners resulted in some challenging circumstances
for Ron and Degen. Degen did 4 turns and got 2 articles then lost
a turn and became confused. A frustrating start for the pair.
The highlight of the morning was Alain and Rueben's successful
FH2, according to Ray only the second successful FH2 in all his
judging experience. Congratulations Alain! Well done!
The
three obedience routines of the day were all successful. We had
a short break for lunch to rest the dogs for Protection.
Protection
routines for the three went well to begin with. Degen ran a nice
92 point routine and retained his "a" rating. Ezri started
out fantastic with a nice blind search and a strong hold and bark
in the blind. Unfortunately when Jason said "Platz"
Ezri did just that, then stayed there! :( He failed to break to
take the bite and his Protection routine was terminated. A very
disappointing end to his day! Cutter ran a nice routine after
that but the sting of defeat for Ezri was still on everyone's
minds. Ray praised his spirit and gave Jason some hints on future
training.
The
last event of the day was Ryan and Conan running an AD. For the
second year in a row we've offered the judge and spectators the
comfort of our deck (with BBQ and beverages) while the dog and
handler traveled up and down our long driveway 66 times! :D
A little boring for the pair but much more comfortable for everyone
else!
Following
the successful AD run, we handed out certificates, trophies and
had photos taken. Congratulations to all who were successful this
weekend. Special congrats to Ron Murray and Ghira vom Klingsgarten
who achieved a High In Trial with the score of 271 in the VPG
2! :D
After
a fine pub meal at the Lunar Rogue in Fredericton, weary participants
headed home to get ready for their Mondays.
Thanks so much to Ray and Janice for their wisdom and friendship.
We really enjoyed the experience of judge and wife. I encourage
more clubs to extend the invitation if it's appropriate. I think
you'll enjoy the experience.
Thanks
to all our club members who turned out for the weekend and filled
in to every role necessary. Also thanks to all participants and
spectators who supported this our 5th annual club trial! Let the
tradition continue!
TLM.

Update
August 2006!
~ SWDA's 2006 Trial
Has
it really been a week since the trial already??? Wow, time flies!
What an experience! Although the numbers were smaller than last
year, it certainly allowed us the time to completely absorb as
much of Hartmut and Lisa's experiences and expertise as they would
share!
Both were very forthcoming both with training and trialing advice
as well as sharing personal experiences!
Saturday was a light day with 5 BH's, four of which were successful.
We managed to accomplish all by 2:00 PM just before the skies
opened up! The early afternoon afforded everyone a chance to freshen
up before the judge's banquet in the evening.
The
rain didn't last for long and the evening was pleasant for some
outdoor chat while Ron BBQ'd fresh corn on the cob, and some wonderful
steaks! Baked potatoes and fresh salads rounded out an excellent
meal, followed by homemade cheesecake!
Sunday morning started at the tracking fields with three entries.
One VPG 1 and two Tr. 1, of which only one Tr. 1 was successful.
After a break for some paperwork and breakfast, we resumed on
the trial field with our remaining two BH entries and our VPG
1 and VPG A entries.
Of the two BH's, only one was successful, however both VPG entries
passed their obedience and their protection.
See
complete results
here!
Photos coming soon!
After more paperwork, handing out certificates and enjoying the
last of the cheesecake, the company parted for an afternoon rest.
Some members took Hartmut and Lisa out for dinner later, while
others tried to put their house back in order! ;)
It
really was a fantastic weekend and I know I speak for the entire
SWDA in wholeheartedly thanking judge Hartmut Beckman and apprentice
judge Lisa Little for taking the time out of their schedules to
visit us! We learned a lot and look forward to meeting you both
again in the future!
SWDA's 2006 Trial
We
are very excited to announce our upcoming trial date August 12
& 13, 2006!
This will be two, one-day trials to allow people with more than
two dogs to trial them all.
We
are also pleased to announce that Hartmut Beckman will be our
Judge and Lisa Little will apprentice!
Trial Location: 4021 Route 102 Highway,
Gagetown, NB
Directions: From Fredericton or Moncton, take exit 330 off the
Trans Canada Highway (Shell Station at bottom of ramp) to the
Village of Gagetown, 9.7 kms past the Shell station is the entrance
to the village, stay to your right on Highway 102 (do not go straight,
into village!) Travel another 7.4 kms past the village. Property
is on the left side.
Tracking fields are located at 2303
Route 102 Highway, Gagetown, NB. The fields are on the right hand
side less than 1 km past the first entrance to the Village of
Gagetown. You will see Charlotte's fruit and vegetable stand on
your left, fields are just past and opposite. Please do not drive
on the fields! Spectators should find room on the side of the
highway to park.
Host
hotel is Robin's
Inn which is located just off the Trans Canada Highway,
approximately 25 minutes from our training/trial field.
Dogs are welcome at the Robin's Inn, however there is a "security"

SWDA's
First Trial Update August 2005!
Well,
just like that, it's come and gone! Although there were some disappointments
for a few competitors, overall the weekend was a wonderful success!
The weather couldn't have been better, and Judge Gottfried Dildei
ordered up the best tracking weather one could hope for!
Saturday was devoted to BH's with all but 2 of the dogs entered
under the age of two years. Of the 9 entries on Saturday, 7 were
passed!
Sunday morning started with two Tracking 1's and a VPG 1 track.
All three dogs were successful! Following that was the VPG 1 Obedience
and an Obedience 1 routine. Both dogs were successful! Three more
BH's were attempted with only 1 succeeding. The VPG 1 Protection
routine was run before a break for lunch and the 1 entrant was
successful!
After lunch the remaining two females in season attempted their
BH's, however both were unsuccessful!
See
complete results
here!
On
behalf of The Sirius Working Dog Association, I would like to
thank Scott Rynax of Oakland Farm & Lodge for allowing us
to use his beautiful facilities! Also, thanks to Nancy and Sue
for catering the Judge's Banquet.
Thank you to all the people who came out and supported this event,
set up, tear down, BBQ, video taped, photographed, provided crowds,
joggers etc. Without all of you we would have been hard pressed
for sure!
Thank you Sue Dickinson for stepping in as Trial Chairperson,
entertaining Gottfried, and generally acting as his right hand.
:-)
I personally (Tammy Dempsey) would like to thank Mary Walter -
President of KG North, and Carole Patterson - President of LV
America, for all their help and support during the past year of
getting this trial off the ground! Any questions I had they answered
for me promptly and completely!
Thank you to our Judge, Gottfried Dildei! :-) Thank you for your
patience, your experience, your humor and all your help. This
young club has learned a whole lot in two short days!
Regretfully, we did not get a club photo with our judge! I think
the relief of having "done it" caused us all to forget
the finishing touch on the weekend! However, the links below will
take you to photos of the weekend as seen by Kara! ;-)
Page 1 Photos, Page
2 Photos, more coming soon!
Update
June 2005!
We
are very excited to be hosting our first club trial on the beautiful
grounds of the Oakland Farm & Lodge located at 65 Oakland
Farm Lane in the nearby village of New
Maryland. Click here
to see a map of the area.
This location will provide us with everything we need (additional
tracking grounds may be necessary) in one stop! The log lodge
is beautifully appointed with comfortable seating, bathrooms,
full kitchen facilities for snacks and beverages, and we will
hold the Judge's banquet here as well.
The first day of our trial will likely be devoted entirely to
BH's, with day two starting with tracking, then more BH's and
on to VPG's.
Update
Feb. 2005!
Our
trial date has been set! August 27 & 28, 2005! Judge is Gottfried
Dildei. We expect that the first day will be devoted to BH's since
we have so many young dogs in our club. We will announce more
details about location, conditions, accommodations and such as
we have them.
SWDA TRIAL 2005!
Now
that we've got our first trial under our belts, we are pumped
to put on our own! We are hoping to have a date approved for late
August or mid September 2005! It will be a two day event, and
will be well worth the traveling time! Plan to visit the capital
city of New Brunswick at a very beautiful time of year!

Helper seminar November 6 & 7, 2004
SUCCESS!!!
The
Sirius Working Dog Association is proud to be sending two of our
member to Maryland in November to attend their first Helper Seminar
under Les Flores and Randy Theen. Our President, Chris Kane and
our Training Director, Ron Murray will take Leidenschaft Dobes
Anja and Atlas down for the two day event! We feel that having
certified Helpers in our club will attract a solid membership
and a great turn out at trials and other events! Good luck guys!
UPDATE
November 9/04

the guys returned from Maryland, safe and with all their pieces!!
;-)) They also returned CERTIFIED!!!
Ron and Chris plan to practice, practice, practice, in order to

September
11 & 12, 2004
Our first trial!!! Yeah! What a great experience and excellent

and achieved 8 new titles! Of the 7 dogs, 6 were Giant Schnauzers
and 1 was a Dobermann! New awards are (from oldest to youngest):
Oberin
vom Eichenbaum BH (6 years old, first trial ever!!), bred by
Bonnie Sue Lewis, owned by Tammy Dempsey and Ron Murray, handled
by Tammy Dempsey
Atlas
von Leidenschaft BH (3 year old Dobe, first trial ever!), bred
and owned by Tammy Dempsey and Ron Murray, handled by Stacey
MacDonald
Brier
von der Leidenschaft BH, AD (3 year old, has other great titles
too!) bred by Tammy Dempsey and Ron Murray, owned by Tracy Gustafson
and Richard Mitchell, handled for BH by Tracy, AD by Richard
Appfelbach's
Berlyn BH, AD (2+ year old, has other great titles too!) bred

Dempsey and Ron Murray, handled by Tammy Dempsey.

and Ron Murray, owned by Laura and Kirk Brewer, handled by Laura.
The
one dog that did not achieve his BH was Chase von der Leidenschaft,
bred by Tammy Dempsey and Ron Murray, owned and handled by Sharon
Thomas. We are confident that Chase will nail it with just a
bit more practice!
Thanks
very much to Hundesport New England for a great weekend and
to judge Carole Patterson (who joked about feeling like she
was at Schnauzer Fest!) for sharing her wealth of knowledge
and experience! It was an awesome experience for all of us and
we look forward to going back next year!
Great Big Thanks to Stacey's husband Dave MacDonald for taking
care of the "city kids" at Leidenschaft Kennels, the
business, and Ron's daughter Connie Murray and grandsons Corey
and Kyle for taking care of the "country kids" at
our home! If not for you, we would have been without our Training
Director, Ron Murray!
You guys are awesome!
